MyGeekList ("we", "us") is a small, independently-run site for browsing movie titles and building personal watchlists. This page explains what information we collect, why, and how it's used. We don't sell your data, and we don't use it for advertising.

Information we collect

• Account information. When you register, we store your username, a password (hashed — we never store or see your plain-text password), and an email address if you choose to provide one.
• Google sign-in. If you sign in with Google instead of creating a password, Google shares your basic profile information (name, email) with us to create and log you into your account. We don't receive your Google password or access anything else in your Google account.
• Guest accounts. You can also try the site as a temporary guest without providing any registration information.
• Your lists and notes. Titles you add to MyList, Watchlist, Favorites, or mark as Seen, along with any notes or tags you write, are stored and tied to your account so we can show them back to you.
• Login security logs. To protect accounts from automated password-guessing attacks, we temporarily log the username and IP address associated with failed sign-in attempts. This information is used only for blocking abusive login activity and clears automatically after a short cooling-off period.
• Cookies. We use only functional cookies required to keep you signed in and to protect forms from cross-site request forgery (CSRF). We do not use advertising, tracking, or analytics cookies, and we don't embed any third-party analytics, chat, or ad scripts on the site.

Movie and title data

Movie, cast, and crew information shown on the site (titles, posters, credits, etc.) is sourced from The Movie Database (TMDB) and cached on our servers to keep the site responsive. This is public catalog data, not personal information, and your personal account details are never sent to TMDB.

How we use your information

We use the information above only to operate the site: authenticating you, saving and displaying your lists and notes, letting you export your lists to CSV, and keeping accounts secure. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.

Data retention and deletion

We keep your account and list data for as long as your account exists. If you'd like your account and associated data deleted, contact us and we'll take care of it.

Children's privacy

MyGeekList is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
